Nyko Data Bank

Nyko Data Bank PS4 Hard Drive Enclosure Upgrade Dock User Manual

1. Úvod

The Nyko Data Bank is an innovative hard drive enclosure designed to significantly expand the storage capacity of your PlayStation 4 console. It allows you to replace the standard 2.5-inch internal hard drive with a larger, more cost-effective 3.5-inch hard drive, supporting capacities up to 8TB. This upgrade provides ample space for games, save files, and other digital content, potentially improving load times due to the generally faster read/write speeds of 3.5-inch drives. The Data Bank integrates seamlessly with the PS4's design and is powered directly by the console, eliminating the need for an additional power outlet.

4.1. Data Backup and Firmware Preparation

  1. Back up your PS4 data: Before proceeding, back up all important game saves, captured media, and other data from your PS4's internal hard drive to an external USB storage device or PlayStation Plus cloud storage. Refer to your PS4's official user guide for detailed backup instructions.
  2. Download PS4 System Software: On a computer, download the latest PS4 system software (reinstallation file, not update file) from the official PlayStation website. Save it to a USB flash drive formatted to FAT32, in a folder structure: PS4/UPDATE/PS4UPDATE.PUP. Ensure the USB drive has sufficient space (typically around 1GB).

5.2. Řízení spotřeby

The Data Bank utilizes a power pass-through cord, drawing power directly from the PS4's power supply. This design eliminates the need for a separate power adapter or outlet for the Data Bank itself.

5.3. Poznámky ke kompatibilitě

  • Kapacita jednotky pevného disku: The Data Bank supports 3.5-inch SATA hard drives up to 8TB. However, some users have reported potential issues with PS4 system software handling very large drives (e.g., 5TB or more) in certain scenarios, such as "Rest Mode."
  • Odpočinkový režim: While the PS4 firmware has evolved, some older firmware versions or specific large drive configurations may exhibit inconsistent behavior with "Rest Mode." If you experience issues, consider fully shutting down the PS4 instead of using Rest Mode, or consult PlayStation support for the latest firmware recommendations.
  • Formátování: Ensure your 3.5-inch hard drive is compatible with the PS4's required formatting (the PS4 will format it during system software installation). Some users have found success pre-formatting drives to exFAT on a PC before installation, though this is not strictly required as the PS4 will reformat it.
