OLFA Chenille Cutter (CHN1) Instruction Manual

Model: CHN1

Zavedení

The OLFA Chenille Cutter (CHN1) is a specialized tool designed to simplify the process of creating chenille fabric. This cutter allows for precise cuts through multiple layers of fabric, enabling the creation of soft, textured chenille for various sewing and quilting projects. It features a unique stationary blade system and adjustable channel guides to accommodate different chenille textures.

Nastavení

Before using your OLFA Chenille Cutter, prepare your fabric layers as follows:

  1. Layering Fabric: Select four layers of naturally fraying fabric, such as cotton, rayon, or homespun. Ensure the bottom layer is slightly larger than the top three layers. This larger bottom layer will serve as the base and will not be cut.
  2. Marking the Bias: Working on the bias of the fabric, draw a diagonal line down the middle of your layered fabric.
  3. Sewing Channels: Sew along the diagonal line, then continue sewing evenly spaced parallel lines across the entire fabric square. These sewn lines create the 'channels' that will be cut.

Návod k obsluze

The OLFA Chenille Cutter features a ratchet dial and channel guides to facilitate precise cutting.

  1. Selecting a Channel Guide: The cutter has four channel guide sizes (small, medium, large, extra-large) to match the width of your sewn channels (from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch wide). To select a guide, rotate the ratchet dial counter-clockwise in the direction of the red arrow until the blade is exposed in the window of your desired channel guide.
  2. Cutting the Channels: Place the selected channel guide into one of your sewn channels. Apply gentle, even pressure and push the cutter along the channel. The cutter will slice through the top three layers of fabric, leaving the bottom layer intact.
  3. Achieving Desired Texture: Narrower channels result in a finer, softer chenille texture, while wider channels produce a fuller, thicker texture.
  4. Dokončení: Once all channels are cut, wash and dry the fabric to encourage fraying and reveal the chenille texture.

Údržba

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your OLFA Chenille Cutter.

Blade Usage and Replacement

  • The blade inside the cutter is stationary and does not rotate during cutting. This allows you to utilize a specific portion of the blade edge until it becomes dull.
  • When a blade edge no longer cuts efficiently, turn the ratchet dial clockwise in the direction of the black arrow. Each click exposes a new, sharp part of the blade.
  • You can repeat this action 24 times to use the entire blade. It is recommended to use a marker to cross off the numbers printed on the dial to keep track of blade usage.
  • Chcete-li vyměnit čepel:
    1. Turn the cutter over.
    2. Slide the lock lever in the direction of the arrow to release the lock.
    3. Lift the top cover of the cutter off.
    4. Opatrně vyjměte starou čepel a řádně ji zlikvidujte.
    5. Replace with a new OLFA Chenille Blade (Model CHB601). Ensure to only use genuine OLFA Chenille Blades for optimal performance and safety.
    6. Align the notches on the top cover with the base, press the two halves together, and slide the lever back into the locked position.

Odstraňování problémů

  • Cutter not cutting effectively: Ensure the blade is sharp. Rotate the ratchet dial to expose a new blade edge. If the entire blade has been used, replace it with a new OLFA CHB601 blade.
  • Fabric jamming or clogging: Fabric fibers, especially from flannel, can accumulate. Use a small brush or toothpick to clear any lint or debris from the blade area.
  • Accidental cuts into the bottom layer: This can occur if fabric layers are not properly basted or sewn, allowing the tool to slip. Ensure layers are securely joined and that the channel guide fits snugly within the sewn channel. Also, verify that the bottom layer is sufficiently larger than the top layers.
  • Uneven chenille texture: Ensure your sewn channels are evenly spaced and that you are cutting consistently along the center of each channel. Using the correct channel guide size for your sewn width is crucial.
