3. Setup - Loading the Grease Gun

Properly loading the grease gun is crucial for effective operation and to prevent air locks.

Loading a Grease Cartridge:

1. Unscrew the barrel (container tube) from the head of the grease gun by turning it counter-clockwise.
2. Pull the plunger rod all the way back until it locks into place with the catch plate.
3. Remove the plastic cap from one end of a new 14oz grease cartridge.
4. Insert the open end of the grease cartridge into the barrel, ensuring the closed end faces outward.
5. Remove the metal pull-tab or seal from the closed end of the grease cartridge.
6. Screw the barrel back onto the head of the grease gun clockwise until it is hand-tight.
7. Optional (First-time use): Apply a liberal coating of grease to the plunger when using the gun for the first time to ensure smooth operation.

Priming the Grease Gun (Bleeding Air):

If the grease gun does not dispense grease immediately after loading, it may have an air lock. Follow these steps to bleed the air:

1. Loosen the head of the grease gun by about a half-turn to allow air to escape.
2. Release the plunger rod from its locked position and push it fully into the barrel.
3. Press the air bleeder valve (if present) while pumping the pistol grip handle until grease begins to flow.
4. Once grease flows consistently, tighten the head of the grease gun completely.

Using the Grease Gun:

1. Clean the grease fitting (zirk) on the component to be lubricated.
2. Press the adjustable coupler firmly onto the grease fitting. Ensure a tight seal. Note: Twist coupler head to open and close the jaws, to fit different sizes of fittings.
3. Squeeze the pistol grip handle repeatedly to dispense grease into the fitting. Continue until resistance is felt or grease begins to seep from the fitting.
4. Release the coupler from the fitting by tilting it slightly and pulling it off.
